Information Section

Depression can be a serious medical condition that results in severe despondency and dejection. It is defined as a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and often accompanied by a loss of interest. These feelings are often prolonged and severe enough to disrupt normal day-to-day activities.

Depression is not the same as the occasional 'blue' mood. It is not simply a weakness or something that one can just 'snap out of'. It is defined as an illness and may require various forms of treatment to decrease or overcome the symptoms.

Symptoms of depression may include; feelings of sadness; hopelessness; inactivity; difficulty with thinking or concentration; trouble remembering or making decisions; a significant increase or decrease in appetite and/or time spent sleeping; feelings of dejection; pessimism; guilt; worthlessness; unimportance; social withdrawal; unusual fatigue or a low energy level; a feeling of being slowed down; headaches; digestive disorders and chronic pain.
