Wow! What Can I say 17.15 lbs and over 15 inches in six weeks..... Did not even think it was possible? I have always battled with my weight, and even with dieting and even with an active lifestyle, I was unable to change. When this challenge arose with Karma PT, I thought GREAT! I can do these...six weeks...a few changes...maybe look a little better for vacation. Well it worked!! It is six weeks later and I have done it - and survived. It was with great motivation from Joan updating us weekly on site and me taking the responsibility to show up to bootcamp.... Every workout different, every one a challenge. I also cut out all sodas (yes the diet ones too), starting eating more at home (as a shift worker - preparing your meals for a night shift is hard), and taking much smaller portions. My core strength has increased immensely, and I am not near as exhausted to play hockey and soccer the rest of the week. I look forward to another 6 weeks of the same. Who knows by summer I may be ready to start running again.

Kettlebells; what is a kettlebell? Imagine a black bowling ball with a suitcase handle on it and you have an idea of what a kettlebell looks like. A kettlebell is a big hunk of iron that comes in several sizes: from 5lbs to 80lbs and for super strong men and women 105lbs (we don't use those)! You can do standard weight training exercises with kettlebells however; the unique value of kettlebells is derived from ballistic (fast exercise) work such as: snatches, swings, clean and jerks. In addition, to giving your incredible muscular endurance when done in high repetitions, with a proper nutrition plan any excess fat that you have will melt off rapidly. Ballistic exercises are not the only exercises that you can benefit from, kettlebell exercises such as: the Turkish get-up, Bent Press and Windmill will develop a rock-hard midsection and increase shoulder flexibility and stability. As a result many chiropractors are using kettlebells with their patients for rehab. If you are a woman that wants to lose weight and tighten up your glutes, quads, abs, and arms, apply a steady diet of kettlebell training ballistic work with some low rep kettlebell training strength work and you are all set.

Medicine Ball training is one of the oldest forms of strength and conditioning training - the first reference to wrestlers training with sand filled bladders appears in Persia nearly 3000 years ago. In ancient Greece the physician Hippocrates had them sewn out of animal skins and stuffed with sand. His patients threw them back and forth for injury prevention and rehabilitation.In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, the words "health" and "medicine" were synonymous. The so-called "Four Horseman of Fitness" were the dumbbell, the Indian club, the wand and the medicine ball. This is where the beginnings of the modern medicine ball originate.
